KALIBO, Aklan– The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) will conduct separate investigations on the alleged oil spill in the irrigation canal outside of the Kalibo International Airport (KIA).

Engr. Percy Malonesio, CAAP-Kalibochief, said Thursday that he received complaints from nearby residents that the irrigation canal stagnant, black substance was emitting foul odors.

“The irrigation canal is inside the jurisdiction of the KIA. We will investigate why the water in the canal is colored black and emitted foul odor,” Malonesio said.

In a separate interview, PENRO head Ivene Reyessaid their personnel were already deployed in the area to conduct the probe.
