Department of Tourism regional director Helen Catalbas said Iloilo City’s hosting of two ministerial meetings in the 2015 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is a done deal.
While the 2015 APEC National Organizing Committee (NOC) said the city was “conditionally chosen” as host of the transportation and food security (with blue economy) meetings in October 2015. Atty. Catalbas said it’s just a formality of sorts.
Based on the email sent by Bill Luz of the APEC -NOC, the city has to satisfy requirements on transportation, venue, power and water supply and other infrastructure concerns to host such international meetings.
The transportation sector is a cinch what with the numerous road repair and expansion projects in the city.
Power supply is ample barring any disturbance on the distribution system of Panay Electric Co.
The only problem left is water supply. Despite management changes in Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and a multibillion bulk water supply project with a private firm, city residents are still complaining of water shortage.
