THE Department of Tourism (DOT-6) led a brainstorming workshop Friday for a new tourism promotion program it is launching dubbed as the “Cruise and Drive.”

DOT regional director Helen Catalbas said the new tourism program will entice more foreign and domestic tourists to visit the region using the roll-on roll-off facilities and land transport.

Participants to the brainstorming workshop are representatives of different national government agencies, tourism stakeholders, provincial and municipal tourism officers, and from the transport sector.

They identified possible routes with tourist destinations along the way, identified accommodations and dining establishments, and marketing and promotion strategies.

Catalbas said except in Aklan where there are already accredited tourists vans and buses, such transportation facilities are lacking in other parts of the region.

She said that whenever there are conferences in Iloilo City, the organizers still have to hire tourists vans or buses from Aklan or hire other form of public transports which charges more for a day’s tour.
