MORE than 1,000 Ilonggos from various walks of life joined the protest against the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or pork barrel.

According to organizers of the rally at the provincial capitol grounds, a total of 1,062 people joined in the collective expression of anger against the abuse of the pork barrel system.

The participants included students, businessmen, priests, nuns, journalists and various cause-oriented groups.

Palanca Award winning poet Marcel Millam read a poem satirizing the pompous and excessive lives of politicians while artist PG Zoluaga rendered a song number also criticizing corruption in government.

The speakers included TDG columnist Art Jimenez, Prof. Ruben Gamala, Fr. Marco Sulayao, Sister Gertrude of the Assumption sisters and leaders of militant groups.

Francis Allan Angelo, president of the Iloilo Press Club (IPC) and TDG editor-in-chief, also urged President Benigno Aquino to scrap his own pork barrel to set an example to lawmakers.
