THE CHARGES of plunder against Pavia Mayor Arcadio Gorriceta filed by his political opponent is both interesting and intriguing, especially because it comes on the heels of the May 2013 elections and after he, himself, has drummed up a series of graft charges against his opponent.

Well, who knows anyway what Syjuco has in his sleeves against Cadio. Until then, however, I am apt to believe in the honesty of Cadio and his good sense in seeing things done in legitimate and legal ways in running the affairs of the municipality of Pavia.

Last Wednesday’s session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Iloilo City was revealing of the abilities of the boy and girl officials to quickly learn the basics of legislative function.

By the way, Sept. 24-28, this year is Boys and Girls Week in Iloilo City. The celebration is a joint activity of the Rotary Club of Iloilo City and the city government, and it has been going on for 38 years now.

During this week, a select group of graduating high school students, chosen through a rigid competitive selection process, “takes over” the functions of governance in tandem with the real city officials.
